Construction Value: $1.6 million

What: New 160 metre long, 3-meter-wide section of the Caloundra Headland Coastal Pathway Boardwalk is based on Sunshine Coast Council’s concept design and runs adjacent to the headland.
Where: Caloundra Headland, Australia
When: Completed July 2024
Our Role: Engineering Design, Landscape Architectural Design, and support advice during construction

This is a section of the 73 km long coastal walkway route from Bells Creek in the south to Coolum in the north. The design included decommissioning the existing pathway and ensuring a DDA compliant shared pathway with a new boardwalk including seating, viewing rest areas, and ensuring the war memorial plaques were suitably featured.

TOD Consulting provided both structural and civil engineering design and inspection services and were awarded the lead consultant role by Sunshine Coast Council. TOD coordinated a professional specialised services team which included Sunshine Coast Council (Concept Design, Design Management,
Contract Administration), TOD Consulting (Lead Consultant), O2LA Landscape Architecture, Webb Australia (Elec), GRC QS, MacKenzie Group, Aspect Contractors with Wagners and Roman Contractors (construction phase) to produce a value engineered design that utilised the Council’s base concept design and selected materials and worked with the challenging topography and vegetation constraints.

The project was well designed, sustainable, safe and was delivered within budget, with maintenance and longevity a priority to provide an environmentally friendly active pathway for the greater Sunshine Coast community to walk, jog, cycle, relax, rest or simply appreciate the coastal views. Construction of the boardwalk and pathways was by Aspect Contractors in conjunction with Wagner Group and Roman Contractors. It was completed on schedule and opened in July 2024.
