Project Description

BACK

Pickering Bridge, crossing the Mary River

What: Two-lane bridge and road upgrade
Where: Moy Pocket Road, Mary River
When: 2013
Budget: $4million
Role: We were the Structural and Civil design engineers for the project. We designed the bridge, abutment protection works, and the new approach road (600 metre length).

This 52 metre long two-lane bridge and road upgrade makes travel on Moy Pocket Road safer and easier. The new bridge is 4 metres higher than the one-lane timber bridge it replaced, which got flooded by the Mary River 2 to 3 times a year.

We were the Structural and Civil design engineers for the project. We designed the bridge, abutment protection works, and the new approach road (600 metre length).

We incorporated special features to minimise flood damage to the approach road. These were tested by an overtopping flood, three months after Council’s construction team finished the project. Successfully tested, we might add!
